When is a round area rug the right investment for your space?
If you are on the search for an area rug for your living room, dining room, or any other space in your home, one of the first things you should think about is the shape of the rug.
Many people instantly go for a rectangular shaped rug. While this is a good option for some spaces, it is very limited, cold and has hard lines that do not often mesh well in the locations they are.
Keep in mind the large number of options you have with rugs.
Picture The Space
The first step in the process is to look at the space you have.If the space is very unusually shaped, look at the lines along the edge of the room.
This can help you to choose the right shape for the area rug. For example, if the room has a variety of different angles, it is best to start with a rug that has many angles, too, such as an octagon design.
On the other hand, perhaps you would like to get rid of some of those harsh lines.
To do this, a round area rug will work best. Still another option you have is to direct individuals to a specific point.
Use an oval shaped rug, pointing the individuals who enter the space where to walk, such as from a door to a hallway.
Take Measurements
Next, keep an eye on the size. Just because the room is a large rectangle does not mean the rug will fill this space. That also gives you more freedom in the style of rug you select.
For example, for a large family room, that is rectangular, you may have a more intimate center section, which defined by the fireplace, the couches and a few chairs.
Arranged properly, this may give you a great circular shape, ideal for a round area rug.
To know the size of the rug, consider the edges you would like that rug to touch. For example, if it is going under your couch edges, you may want to measure from one edge to the next.
From one side to the next is the diameter, which is what most round area rugs defined by.
Choose a rug that is comfortable in the room, not overpowering.
If you choose something too small, though, you could be further limiting yourself.
If you are having a great deal of trouble, take a tablecloth or a bed sheet and lay it in the space. Use it as a guide to help you to gauge the size of the space better.
Shopping for round area rugs is not always easy. If round just does not work, consider oval shaped rugs and octagons. There are times when square or rectangle rugs, and even runners are a good fit.
There are other times when this is just too limiting for the space you have. You do have plenty of choices to choose.
